On June 7 we drove to the ranch with Jacob, Tate, and Parker, Jacob's friend. We arrive late in the afternoon and took a ride on the ATV's. On Tuesday morning we began work on building two rock and brush dams for the current EQIP contract. We picked up rock from the hill sides and deposited them in the arroyo with a layer of juniper branches. It is estimated that the two dams total 25 cubic yards of rock. The purpose of the dams is to retard the flow of water and stop the head-cut that is about where the picture is taken. Eventually the soil will fill in behind the dam. It took until noon the next day to complete the dams.

The next project was to prepare the location for a fiberglass water storage tank next to the existing tank at the spring.
The 9000 gallon tank was delivered and installed the next day. We made the revised connections for a water line coming from the storage tanks.

For the remainder of the week we did the following: mowed the lawn, hoed weeds along the front fence, hoed weeks around the FPN house, rehung the sliding door to the hay barn, weeded, watered the garden and planted six rows of corn, repaired the floor of the swim tank, spliced a water line in front of the hay barn, repaired the drip lines to the trees, and made 30 frames for 15 picnic tables. The boys worked really hard and I think they had a good experience.

I am sure this isn't very interesting to most of you, but it will serve as a record of what I do on my trips to the ranch.
